Head of Archives and Collections

We are looking for a highly experienced Head of Archives and Collections to lead the management of Hatfield Park’s extensive and significant collections.

Summary of the Role –

The Head of Archives and Collections will lead the management of Hatfield Park’s extensive and
significant collections. You will care for the books and archives (both hard-copy and digital), while
working with experts to care for paintings, furniture, and other objects. Working closely with the
Estate Director and Lord Salisbury, you will plan for the proper maintenance of the collection whilst
seeking opportunities to create commercial value through digitisation, collaboration with the wider
estate team and connections to other historic collections. Responsible for some of the most significant
Tudor and Victorian records, the successful applicant will have an infectious enthusiasm for the ‘jewel
in Hatfield’s crown’, communicating its value and significance to the family, visitors and wider estate.

Essential Skills and Attributes:

• Trained archivist with postgraduate qualifications in archives and records management, or
similar experience.
• Experience of managing budgets and a small team.
• Understanding of digitisation programmes.
• Experience of modern records management.
• A passionate communicator of history, able to engage with a variety of audiences.
